About Us

The alumni association of Urumpirai Hindu College Canada was inaugurated in June 1994 with forty-nine members. Without the enthusiasm and the commitment of Mr.K.Kannathasan, Mr.K.Varathanathan, Mrs.T. Meenambikai, Mr.K.Sothilingam, Mr.P.Balakumar and Mr.T.Varatharajan, this could not have been possible. Due to their untiring efforts the Association progressed and today, after seventeen years since its inauguration, it has more than five hundred members. It gives us great pleasure to announce this staggering growth.

We organized sports activities and social programs to encourage and nurture our younger generation. Also prizes are awarded to them. Though most of them were born in Canada, these events help them to understand their roots. Moreover participation in the all-Jaffna competitions has proved the mettle of our school by securing first place in Soccer and Netball in some years.

It is well known that we celebrate Thai Pongal Vizha on a grand scale at this time, competions are held in speech and voice and prizes are given to the best. Its our tradition to invite past students and teachers to show our respect and gratitude to them. What started as Urumpirai Hindu College Alumni has now encompassed all schools in Urumpirai and this has helped in its growth.
